AQUATICS SUPERVISOR JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Southern Arizona, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities. The Aquatics Supervisor will be responsible for the on-site daily pool operations to ensure a safe environment for all. This position requires a dynamic, highly motivated individual tasked with the supervision and training of the Lifeguards, Swim Instructors, and Aquatic Specialists along with implementation of high quality programming that meets the needs of our communities. Through intentional interactions this position will model excellent customer services and have extensive knowledge in the aquatics industry contributing to the overall success of the department, branch, and organization as a whole.

Anticipated End Date: AUGUST 17, 2024
Anticipated Work Schedule: 40 Hours per Week

RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN AQUATICS SUPERVISOR:

  • Provides leadership and models excellent customer service to provide a welcoming environment for all staff, members, and guests by following customer service best practices. This includes (but is not limited to) adhering to the “ten foot rule” and maintaining eye contact.
  • Delivers a personalized approach when engaging with members that creates a positive experience to meet their individual goals. This includes (but is not limited to) introductions to appropriate YMCA program areas and services.
  • Effectively engages with diverse groups of people with different abilities and backgrounds.
  • Ensures aquatics staff actively engage with YMCA members, program participants, and guests when timing is appropriate.
  • Creates and fosters strong relationships with YMCA staff, members, program participants, guests, and stakeholders to assist in identifying community needs and helps connect them with others and the YMCA.
  • Takes ownership through seeking to understand concerns and successfully takes actions to resolve each unique situation. Notifies appropriate leadership in a timely manner to ensure the best outcome for all parties involved.
  • Has the ability, skills, and knowledge to respond appropriately to emergency situations while adhering to the standard of care as well as the safety policies and procedures set by the YMCA of Southern Arizona.
  • Is adept at utilizing the current operating software system to maximize an individual’s experience through sales, registrations and other software functions. Including training other staff as needed.
  • Assists with preventative maintenance plans. Initiates and oversees maintenance of equipment to ensure operational efficiency and high program quality. Creates proposals based on programmatic needs for leadership.
  • Provides supervision for and initiates appropriate actions to maintain cleanliness, safety and organization throughout the facility with priority in assigned program areas.
  • Works with leadership to implement aquatic programs and activities including (but not limited to) group swim lessons, clinics, and private lessons that reflect the community needs and maintain a standard of excellence.
  • Maintains a strong understanding of current industry standards within the aquatics.
  • Assists leadership with the day-to-day operations at all branch locations of the YMCA of Southern Arizona and implements best practices to ensure compliance with all state, local and YMCA aquatic regulations. This includes (but is not limited to) maintaining maintenance records and chemical logs.
  • Works with leadership to create staff schedules based on programming, facility, association, and community needs. This includes ensuring all shifts are covered.
  • Assists leadership with generating block schedules, program brochures/flyers and other promotional materials that communicate the impact and offerings clearly.
  • Ensures all aquatics staff are ready to respond in the event of an emergency by coordinating, planning and implementing monthly training in accordance with industry standards.
  • Works with leadership to recruit, hire, train and evaluate staff that is consistent with industry best practices.
  • Ensures all aquatics staff have appropriate and current certifications on file.
  • Assists in developing the department budget and takes appropriate action to maintain the fiscal integrity of the department.
  • Collects, maintains, and reports necessary data to assist with maintaining efficient operations.
  • Adheres to all YMCA of Southern Arizona policies and procedures.
  • Needs to be able to travel to multiple sites within the association or community as needed to promote and engage in aquatics programs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS OF AN AQUATICS SUPERVISOR:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED; Associates degree or higher preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.
  • Previous customer service and sales experience preferred.
  • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of technology.
  • Minimum of two years leadership experience in related field(s).
  • Certifications required within thirty (30) days of hire: Certified Pool Operation (CPO – National and Pima County), Basic Life Support or Professional Rescuer CPR/AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen Administration, YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor and YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent.
  • Preferred certifications: Pool Operator, Lifeguard Instructor, and Swim Lesson Instructor Trainer
  • Completion of YMCA’s online training within seven (7) days of hire.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends.
