EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION TEACHER JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position supports the work of the YMCA of Southern Arizona, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Position 
provides direction for the children in the classroom and implements program curriculum. Ensuring a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on building achievement and belonging in youth, and strong relationships among youth and within families.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF AN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION TEACHER:

  • Create, implement and evaluate lesson plans for curriculum within the established guidelines
  • Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families
  • Actively engages and oversees the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child
  • Cultivates positive relationships, conducts parent conferences, and maintains effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers and connects them to the YMCA
  • Oversee the maintenance of program site and equipment to ensure it is hazard free, clean and well organized
  • Oversee the maintenance of required program records and inventory of materials.
  • Attends and participates in program activities, events, staff meetings, and staff training
  • Adhere to guidelines applicable to Child and Adult Care Food
  • Ensures the safety and well-being of consumers by maintaining professional boundaries, completing required abuse risk management training, following procedures for high-risk activities and supervision, reporting suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations, and adhering to mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  • Must complete twenty-one (21) hours of Early Education training and/or course work annually in person and online
  • Performs other duties as assigned

REQUIREMENTS OF AN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION TEACHER:

  • At least eighteen (18) years of age or older
  • Current Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Current CPR, First Aid, AED certifications for Infants/Children/Adults or completion within thirty days of hire
  • High school degree/GED and at least some CDA/ECE education credits
  • At least one year of experience working with multiple children in a recreational or educational setting
  • CDA, NAC, CCP, Associates degree or Bachelor’s degree in Early Education or closely related field preferred
  • Completion of assigned online training within upon date of hire and periodically thereafter
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate program activities
  • Previous experience with diverse populations and/or the ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
