SPORTS SITE SUPERVISOR JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position is responsible for the delivery of excellent service to all members, guests, and program participants. The Sports Site Supervisor is responsible for the successful registration, implementation, and operation of the program.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SPORTS SITE SUPERVISOR:

  • Provides leadership and models excellent customer service to provide a welcoming environment for all staff, campers, members, and guests by following customer service best practices.
  • Directs and supervises sports program activities to meet YMCA guidelines.
  • Implements youth and/or adult sports programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans to meet the needs of the branch, community and Association.
  • Implements sports sessions / activities for youth and adults and introduces new sessions based on feedback from members and the Association to aid in membership retention.
  • Train, develop, schedule and direct personnel and volunteers as needed in accordance with Association HR guidelines and procedures.
  • Assist in the marketing of YMCA youth sports programs in the community.
  • Manage and implement the approved budget for sports and take prompt, appropriate action to correct variances.
  • Secure and schedule athletic fields and facilities as needed. Assign set up duties to department staff as needed; monitors and purchases necessary sporting equipment as budget permits. Schedule gym and other facility areas for sports activities.
  • Create teams, organize and conduct meetings for coaches. Develop and distribute team practice and game schedules; train and schedule sports officials; develop and distribute sports rules, guidelines and handbooks.
  • Purchase and distribute team uniforms and awards; coordinate and distribute team photos if applicable.
  • Delivers a personalized approach when engaging with program participants that creates a positive experience.
  • Organize and conduct sports clinics to foster relationship building among members. Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  • Compile program statistics for evaluation of the effectiveness and participation in sports sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS OF A SPORTS SITE SUPERVISOR:

  • 21 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Level One Fingerprint Card preferred
  • Completion of YMCA’s online training within seven days of hire.
  • CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications required within thirty days of hire.
  • Minimum of two years of sports leadership or sports coordinator experience.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate and developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations and/or the ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledgeable about the rules and guidelines for team sports.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
